The sunsets at Blokhus strand, a beach near Aalborg in Denmark, are some of the most beautiful sunsets in the whole of Europe, let alone in Denmark. On the sand dunes you can admire the bright orange sun setting into the Danish coastline.

Blokhus- a seaside town near the city of Aalborg

The town of Blokhus is located on the Jammerbucht- a bay on the Danish North coastline which extends around 100km in total. The town of Blokhus itself is quite small but there are lots of little shops, cafes, restaurants and 3 larger supermarkets to get your shopping from. The main highlight, however, in Blokhus, is the close proximity to the sand dunes, which look out onto the beautiful coastline. Throughout my 3 night stay in Blokhus, I was lucky enough to experience the most beautiful weather. Although it was a little cold, the sun was shining and this allowed us to enjoy the most beautiful sunsets.

Danland Blokhus- seafront on your doorstep

If you’re looking to have the seafront literally on your doorstep, Danland Feriecenter Blokhus is the perfect place to stay. This is where I stayed during my three nights on the Danish coastline and I couldn’t get over the views from the balcony onto the sand dunes and the rippling waves. Make sure to select a seafront view apartment when booking your apartment at Danland!

Cosy apartments with sunsets views

It’s not only the views which were a highlight of the apartment at Danland Blokhus. The apartments in the holiday park are super cosy . A living room with smart TV, dining and kitchen area, bathroom and 2 separate bedrooms – one with a double bed and the other with two singles – await you during your overnight stay.

If you’d like to find out more about a stay at Danland Blokhus, click here for more details.

There are options to rent towels and bed linen in the apartments, although you can also bring your own. The kitchens, however, lack certain equipment- such as a can opener and oven gloves. I would recommend to bring your own supplies if you are able to.

Blokhus and the apartments at Danland are accessible by both public transport and by car. There is also on-site parking available.

Exploring the city of Aalborg

Another highlight of my stay at Danland Blokhus was how easy it was to get to and from the city of Aalborg and the airport. In under an hour you can reach the city centre of Aalborg from Blokhus direct on the number 200 bus. In Aalborg itself there is also so much to see and explore. Here’s a few of my highlights:

The Aalborg House of Music is located at the harbour. The building features curved walls and large glass windows, which look out onto the lifting bridge in the harbour.
The House of Music- Aalborg. The iconic building is located at the harbour and is a concert hall, as well as practice rooms for the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra and Royal Academy of Music.
  • Hjelmerstald- road with half-timbered houses
  • Nytorv- half timbered houses and Lagkagehuset
  • Ice cream at Paradis parlour
  • Peder Barkes Gade- road with colourful houses
  • Harbour with a bridge which folds open to let boats through

Aalborg is also well equipped for any vegan travellers- like me! There is one fully vegan restaurant and lots of places do vegan options too!

A day out at Fårup sommerland

Fårup sommerland is a theme park located near to the coast line in North Denmark. Another highlight of a staying in Blokhus is that the theme park Farup Sommerland is located less than 10 minutes drive away from the theme park!

At Fårup sommerland there’s a variety of different rollercoasters and amazing attractions, all located in a beautiful woodland setting. From the top of the Fønix rollercoaster, you can admire incredible views onto the Danish coast!

Fønix is additionally the tallest rollercoaster in the whole of Denmark:

There’s also a lot of different food and drink stalls in Farup Sommerland too. Unfortunately, the main restaurant, Oasen, was closed. This was a shame for me as they have lots of vegan options here and with it closed it meant my options were much more limited. Otherwise, you can choose between plant-based burgers or loaded fries. The park offers lovely oat milk lattes as well!

The perfect Danish adventure holiday

Blokhus, Aalborg and Farup Sommerland can easily be combined to create the perfect adventure! Aalborg has both a train station and an airport, making these locations very accessible. There are direct connections from Aarhus to Aalborg. It is not necessary to rent a car to reach these locations- in the summer months the public transport connections operate at an increased frequency. I have also found public transport in Denmark to be very reliable.
